[Sickbay]: Round One scans and vaccines

[ Captain's Log: a Meeting with the Senior Staff. Wherein Picard discusses what to do with their new, er. "Guests." ]

As you enter sickbay tonight, escorted there by Lieutenant Worf and his security detail, you may notice it isn't all that unusual. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for Chief Medical Officer Crusher herself, she's well-groomed and kindly, wearing her teal uniform and a blue coat. No masks, no rubber gloves. The most dangerous thing about her is that maternal look in her eyes; the one that scolds you for not doing your homework, or leaving your dirty dishes in your room.

The crew makes no promises for Dr. McCoy, on the other hand. He isn't one of ours. You should probably watch your neck.

"All right, don't be shy," Dr. Crusher calls out as you enter. "Come in and sit down. It's just a scan and maybe a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: This is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Bones McCoy and Beverly Crusher (NPC) on deck, so if you'd prefer one over the other just specify it in your tag. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your OP yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

What a surprisingly complicated question.

And it's there in the way Steph hesitates, no wanting to lie to a medical officer of any sort, but equally unwilling to give away state secrets.

Then again, the entire world knows about the serum. They just don't know what it is.

"Maybe," is what Steph decides on, and the smile she flashes is apologetic. "I'm not sure it's relevant in this situation."

Since she really hopes to be out of here and back home as soon as she can be.

She can't help but think of HYDRA doctors. She doesn't know the Federation, she doesn't know the Enterprise, and while Dr. Crusher and Captain Picard have been friendly and respectful, she doesn't know them.

But again: the entire world knows. They just don't know what.

"I'm afraid I can't let you draw blood, or do any sort of extensive examinations," Steph says, quiet but firm. "I was part of an official military project that included some... enhancements. It would be a breach of national security to let you take fluids."

Steph nods, thoughtful, and looks the doctor straight in the eye. "Of course. But I don't mean to tell you just for this exam. If anything happens, if we're here that long, I have to ask that you respect my wishes, even if I'm not conscious to repeat them."

It's hard to knock Steph out but it is not, unfortunately, impossible.

Steph smiles, grateful, but adds quietly, "I'm afraid they can't be a resort at all, Doctor."

Not that Steph thinks she'll be easy to kill, but she'd rather go down in another plane than be the source of another Johann Schmidt or Hulk. And again - not that Hulk isn't a teammate. But Bruce's life has hardly been made easy from his experimentation with the serum.

Steph blinks and a smile quirks on her lips, wide and pleased, blue eyes crinkled.

"First, do no harm."

There's a flicker in blue eyes, troubled, not at all reassured by this. She considers for a long moment before lifting her chin, lines in her brow.

"Do you still use the term DNR, Beverly?"
therighttime: (neutral: Head-tilt)

Steph likes knowing she's being heard and understood. But the doctor's correct: they're getting away from the topic at hand, and the topic at hand is that Beverly said she's fine so now she can leave.

Steph smiles, a little sheepish, and scoots off the bed. "Pardon me, I didn't mean to get off-track, it's just... I've seen what happens when the serum gets into the wrong hands. I'm in a strange place with a lot of strange people. I'm a little worried about what might happen before I get home."

"It'd be appreciated." Steph stands and offers her hand again, polite. "It was nice to meet you, Beverly. Hopefully I won't see much of you inside this room."

Steph nods, appreciation tamping down the awkwardness of saying too much, too quickly, unnecessarily. Without really knowing the woman, she's really inclined to like Beverly. And if they're kept contained much longer, she might ask for a rundown of new nursing practices.

Steph doesn't find herself with a lot of downtime. Mostly due to preference.

So she nods, smiles, and steps away to leave the bed for the next patient.
