[Sickbay]: Round One scans and vaccines

As you enter sickbay tonight, escorted there by Lieutenant Worf and his security detail, you may notice it isn't all that unusual. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for Chief Medical Officer Crusher herself, she's well-groomed and kindly, wearing her teal uniform and a blue coat. No masks, no rubber gloves. The most dangerous thing about her is that maternal look in her eyes; the one that scolds you for not doing your homework, or leaving your dirty dishes in your room.
The crew makes no promises for Dr. McCoy, on the other hand. He isn't one of ours. You should probably watch your neck.
"All right, don't be shy," Dr. Crusher calls out as you enter. "Come in and sit down. It's just a scan and maybe a hypospray, nothing to worry about."
Probably.
[ooc: This is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Bones McCoy and Beverly Crusher (NPC) on deck, so if you'd prefer one over the other just specify it in your tag. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your OP yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

What a surprisingly complicated question.
And it's there in the way Steph hesitates, no wanting to lie to a medical officer of any sort, but equally unwilling to give away state secrets.
Then again, the entire world knows about the serum. They just don't know what it is.
"Maybe," is what Steph decides on, and the smile she flashes is apologetic. "I'm not sure it's relevant in this situation."
Since she really hopes to be out of here and back home as soon as she can be.

"At the moment almost everything is relevant," she says, not unkindly. Dealing with that many new people on the ship, and not knowing half of their medical histories, is not making her job easy. "But if you're concerned, everything said here falls under doctor-patient confidentiality."

But again: the entire world knows. They just don't know what.
"I'm afraid I can't let you draw blood, or do any sort of extensive examinations," Steph says, quiet but firm. "I was part of an official military project that included some... enhancements. It would be a breach of national security to let you take fluids."
no subject
"We're just checking everyone to make sure nothing stowed away that we're not prepared to handle," she explains. "We won't need to take any fluids, as long as your scans come back clean, and they have. But thank you for being honest," she says.

It's hard to knock Steph out but it is not, unfortunately, impossible.

"I understand," she says. "And unless it's unavoidable I'll make sure to note that invasive procedures should be a last resort." Usually they are anyway, with the level of technology they've got, but still. If it will reassure her patient, it's worthwhile.

Not that Steph thinks she'll be easy to kill, but she'd rather go down in another plane than be the source of another Johann Schmidt or Hulk. And again - not that Hulk isn't a teammate. But Bruce's life has hardly been made easy from his experimentation with the serum.

"First, do no harm."

Pause. "That said I will make the note on your chart and do my utmost to keep to it."
no subject
"Do you still use the term DNR, Beverly?"

Steph smiles, a little sheepish, and scoots off the bed. "Pardon me, I didn't mean to get off-track, it's just... I've seen what happens when the serum gets into the wrong hands. I'm in a strange place with a lot of strange people. I'm a little worried about what might happen before I get home."

Doctor Crusher smiles, and stands back for Steph to get off the bed. "Hopefully we'll get you all home without much fuss, and soon."

Steph doesn't find herself with a lot of downtime. Mostly due to preference.
So she nods, smiles, and steps away to leave the bed for the next patient.
