[Sickbay]: Round One scans and vaccines

[ Captain's Log: a Meeting with the Senior Staff. Wherein Picard discusses what to do with their new, er. "Guests." ]

As you enter sickbay tonight, escorted there by Lieutenant Worf and his security detail, you may notice it isn't all that unusual. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for Chief Medical Officer Crusher herself, she's well-groomed and kindly, wearing her teal uniform and a blue coat. No masks, no rubber gloves. The most dangerous thing about her is that maternal look in her eyes; the one that scolds you for not doing your homework, or leaving your dirty dishes in your room.

The crew makes no promises for Dr. McCoy, on the other hand. He isn't one of ours. You should probably watch your neck.

"All right, don't be shy," Dr. Crusher calls out as you enter. "Come in and sit down. It's just a scan and maybe a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: This is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Bones McCoy and Beverly Crusher (NPC) on deck, so if you'd prefer one over the other just specify it in your tag. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your OP yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

She knows she'll get a clean bill of health, at least. She can't carry anything. The possibility of getting injured, though... she hadn't even considered that. What would they do? Who can repair her here?

"I have no injuries," she says as she settles in. "Are there--are there magnets in this? I've got steel boning in my... clothing."

Corsets are undergarments, and she doesn't discuss them with strangers. At some point, she'll need to go back to clothing that isn't Victorian, but this is all she has right now.

"Good."

He picks up the medical scanner and heads over. "No, there's no magnets. Shouldn't effect anything on your person." Or in it, luckily enough for her. He held up the medical scanner. "This'll hover over your face and give us a basic race reading and an injury history. Are you okay with that?"

He asks because she seems to be a nervous. He didn't need people freaking out in the sickbay.

She takes a deep breath, and nods. "That seems harmless enough."

As human as she looks and feels on the outside, there's nothing natural about her insides--she's beautifully made, her bones and muscles and all other components replicated in metal. A mechanical heart more symbolic than functional, because she has no blood to circulate. The beginnings of a digestive system--really, just a small containment space in case she has to eat or drink something.

It doesn't take long for the computer to kick back a non-human reading. Actually, what it kicks back is machinery readings - something Leonard isn't overtly family with by any means. He swears a little under his breath and pulls the scanner away.

"Lay back for me. I need to the biobed to give me a full read up."

He paused, putting the scanner on the table before looking back at her.

"Are you an android of some kind?"

"I am constructed, yes."

It's easier for her to phrase it that way--what she is, rather than what she's not. It makes her feel better. Less lacking.

She settles back carefully on the biobed, fussing a bit with her long skirt to make sure it stays smooth.

"I thought I should come down anyway."

"Good thing you did. Even if you're... constructed, we need to log you into the database." He started annotating the readings as they popped up. But reading mechanics was like reading alien to the doctor. He might have consulted Scotty about her if he was on the ship, but he wasn't and Leonard wasn't sure who to go to about mechanics. He'd just log it and see what Dr. Crusher said later.

"Is there anything about your mechanics that will keep you running if your body is damaged."

"It depends on the damage," she says. "I lost my hand in a flying accident a few years ago, and it didn't leak fluids and I could still use the rest of my arm. My husband's friend put it back on for me, and it's as good as new."

She holds up her left arm. No trace of any damage there.

"But if I'm too badly injured, I am told, the energy of my construction and functioning will be released all at once."

Explosively.

Leonard sighed. He really wasn't good at this computer stuff. He looked down at her.

"Alright, look, I'm not good with dealing with beings that are constructed. I'm going to have to talk to Dr. Crusher about this afterwards. We may have to have you come in again or deal with an engineer on the ship, depending on how that conversation goes, alright?"

[personal profile] mirabile_mireille 2014-06-03 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's fine," she nods, and hesitates.

"I'd prefer--I'd prefer it if everybody didn't know. Just the people who need to."

She's a guest here, and her hosts might need to be aware of what she is. It might come up. But other people... she doesn't want to be singled out.

Leonard nodded.

"I'll only inform who I have to. The last thing we want is to excite people about the physiology of anyone else on the ship. Trust me, you're not the only one that doesn't come across as human here."

[personal profile] mirabile_mireille 2014-06-07 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't mind being examined by engineers, but... but I don't want to be taken apart. I don't know whether anyone can put me back together the way my husband could."

She's not worried about anyone trying to copy her; she knows it can't be done. But that doesn't mean other people won't try.

[personal profile] shut_up_dammit 2014-06-09 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't want you taken apart either. Honestly, I don't think it'll be a problem. They'll just want to see how you work and how to fix you. If you end up seeing one of them and they start talking about taking you apart, come find me and we'll go see the captain."

Because he didn't want her to feel like she had no one to turn to.

"Thank you," she says quietly. "I was--when my hand was put back on, it wasn't done with tools. It was more like healing with magic, just pushing the edges together and reconnecting them. I know that can be done. I don't know about anything else."

"Is your body capable of doing that on its own or do you need something or someone in particular to get it to do that?" He asked for more curiosity than anything else at this point.

[personal profile] mirabile_mireille 2014-06-15 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"A... a friend of my husband's did it, the last time," she says.

Friend may not be the most accurate word, but it's complicated. Everything involving Loki seems to be.

"He's here, though. We haven't spoken, but I've seen him. If it happened again, he'd probably be willing to help."
shut_up_dammit: (Neutral // Following and Listening)

[personal profile] shut_up_dammit 2014-06-19 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Leonard nodded. "Good. At least there's someone."

Loki. He met a Loki, didn't he? He thought he did.

"Could you give me a description of him? I would like to meet him, but if you haven't spoken yet, then that maybe a little difficult. Don't go out of your way to talk to him about me, but if you do happen to talk with him, mention Leonard McCoy'd like to talk with him and direct him here. We'll have to talk about you, of course, but I'd just like to know how well he could patch you up."

"He's a man with red hair," she says. "And sometimes a woman. Sometimes he doesn't have red hair, and sometimes he's not human-shaped at all--but he's always got scars on his mouth. My husband used to say, you could always recognize him by his scars. They never go away."

He can cover the scars with makeup, but generally doesn't. It's a lot of work, and takes a lot of makeup.

Man wit red hair with scars on his mouth. Yeah, that sounded familiar. But the rest of that just pissed him off. He'd tide that anger later. This was more important.

"Yeah, I think I've met him already. That's helpful. If anything happens to you, I'll be sure to get into contact with him."
