[Sickbay]: Round One scans and vaccines

[ Captain's Log: a Meeting with the Senior Staff. Wherein Picard discusses what to do with their new, er. "Guests." ]

As you enter sickbay tonight, escorted there by Lieutenant Worf and his security detail, you may notice it isn't all that unusual. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for Chief Medical Officer Crusher herself, she's well-groomed and kindly, wearing her teal uniform and a blue coat. No masks, no rubber gloves. The most dangerous thing about her is that maternal look in her eyes; the one that scolds you for not doing your homework, or leaving your dirty dishes in your room.

The crew makes no promises for Dr. McCoy, on the other hand. He isn't one of ours. You should probably watch your neck.

"All right, don't be shy," Dr. Crusher calls out as you enter. "Come in and sit down. It's just a scan and maybe a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: This is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Bones McCoy and Beverly Crusher (NPC) on deck, so if you'd prefer one over the other just specify it in your tag. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your OP yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

Leonard chuckled.

"Maybe not, but it's all good intentions, I promise. And no, your clothes can stay on."

The readings popped out. Human. The bacteria wasn't so bad. Wouldn't kill her, or anyone else on the crew for that matter, but he could take care of it easily enough. Everything else read back perfectly fine.

"Alright, darling, sit up for me. We're done with that." He paused. "Now, you've got a bit of bacteria in your system. Won't kill you, but I could give you a hypospray to take care of it if you like."

"How'd that get there?"

How embarrassing. It's like getting caught wearing dirty undergarments when a gust blows up your skirt.

"Now, forgive me, I'm still gettin' accustomed to all this newfangled talk, but 'bacteria' means somethin' like parasites, right? Nasty li'l critters that could make me sick? I reckon I best get rid of them, if I can."

She don't understand a lot of doctor-talk, which is probably going to make her his favorite patient on future visits. He can understand 'critter' and 'ill humor' and 'bad blood' as symptoms, right?

"Looks like the kind that gets in through drinking water. It's not a big deal."

Hasn't happened in years, but still wasn't a big deal. He picked up a hypospray with all the regulated vaccines. It'd kill off the bacteria just fine.

"Yeah, same idea. Parasites are a little different, but not much in most respects. Could make you sick, but most likely won't. Still, it wouldn't hurt to get it out of you. It's going to sting for a second, alright?"

He didn't want to surprise her with the pain. Nah, she was too charming for that. He had a feeling that he'd always be happy to see her. She was just different, and he liked that.

She nods along, but can't keep the suspicion off her face when he holds up the hypospray. A little sting doesn't worry her, she's a tough ol' gal, but the strange medicine does give her pause.

"That ain't gonna turn me into some two-headed beast, right? Maybe I should watch somma the other patients, see if any of 'em keel over first."

But she isn't going for her gun or even shying away from him. She's been watching the other patients, and nobody seems to be in distress. Besides, if he sends her off to her Maker, he should know he won't be far behind.

Leonard doesn't mind her suspicion. In fact, he expects it. She's from a place without a lot of medicine. It can't be helped. He smiled in a comforting way. At least, he hoped it looked comforting.

"It shouldn't. You're welcome to stay at the station for a while. There are occasionally some side effects, allergic reactions, but it's rare. The risk of one should pass in about ten minutes. As long as it looks like I'm working on something, Dr. Crusher won't mind you staying put until the waiting period is over."

He could always work on annotating different files.

She arches her brows, a slight smirk teasing the corners of her mouth.

"How do I know you ain't jus' tryin' t'keep me here for your own nefarious purposes? D'you invite all the ladies to stay longer?"

One thing you should figure out pretty quick about Kate Barlow is she ain't gonna give you an easy time. She's a pistol, and she knows it.

Still, she unbuttons her cuff and starts rolling up her sleeve.

"All right, doctor. Do your worst."

Leonard might have gotten mad at anyone else, but really, she was a doll and spunky - the only part of his ex-wife he missed. He smiled.

"No, just the ones that make good conversation."

He picked up the hypospray and took her wrist gently so it didn't move. Then he pressed the hypo against her skin and set it off. It would hurt. A lot. At least for a second. Then the pain would go away quickly. He pulled away quickly and set the hypo aside.

"You're free to leave whenever you'd like."

Well, she'd take that to be high praise indeed if she knew. You can learn a lot about a fella just by watching what they smile at.

She sucks in a sharp breath when the hypo goes off, rubbing the spot after Leonard pulls away. Ain't that odd, now? Not even a puncture wound.

"Thank you, doctor. I s'pose that wasn't so bad."

She slips down off the biobed, and glances up at him with a cat-who-ate-the-canary grin.

"I'll still be countin' on you for that dinner, though."

She winks. He's a busy man, so she won't keep him any longer. But it's nice having someone you can tease a bit.

[ ooc: I'm sorry, I meant to throw a tag on this much, much sooner! Thank you so much, they're lovely and I definitely want them to thread again. ^__^]

Leonard can't help but smile again. A charmer, this one. He kind of wished all of the patients were like her when they came up. But they couldn't all be this delightful. It wouldn't make her special.

"I'll find a spot in my schedule for you, darlin'."

[ occ: No, it's okay! I've been M.I.A. for a while, so I probably wouldn't have gotten to it for a while anyway. :) I'd love for them to thread again! <3 ]
