[Sickbay]: Round One scans and vaccines

As you enter sickbay tonight, escorted there by Lieutenant Worf and his security detail, you may notice it isn't all that unusual. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for Chief Medical Officer Crusher herself, she's well-groomed and kindly, wearing her teal uniform and a blue coat. No masks, no rubber gloves. The most dangerous thing about her is that maternal look in her eyes; the one that scolds you for not doing your homework, or leaving your dirty dishes in your room.
The crew makes no promises for Dr. McCoy, on the other hand. He isn't one of ours. You should probably watch your neck.
"All right, don't be shy," Dr. Crusher calls out as you enter. "Come in and sit down. It's just a scan and maybe a hypospray, nothing to worry about."
Probably.
[ooc: This is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Bones McCoy and Beverly Crusher (NPC) on deck, so if you'd prefer one over the other just specify it in your tag. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your OP yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]
Mommy!Bones
Still, Andros took a seat, doing his best to look relaxed and professional.
"It's been a while since I was scanned by someone I didn't know." He finally admitted. This person wasn't DECA, Alpha or one of his teammates.
(and here's the records for Andros)
no subject
"Yeah, well, it's been a while since I scanned anyone outside my crew, so I think we're all in for a lot of firsts today."
There's still a bit of tensity to his voice, but not anger. He's just tired of people coming to him having some weird ass readings, okay? So you better be human.
no subject
Unlike most of the people here it seemed, Andros was familiar with this type of scanning.Despite being from the year 2001, KO-35 was significantly more advanced than Earth was at that time. After all, Andros had his own space ship. And if you were curious Bones, they don't have garages on KO-35. They have sky ports.
"Yeah, it looks like we should make the best of the situation. Is there anything you need me to do?"
no subject
"Just keep still." He paused, eyes wandering to the reading screen. "You have any injuries that you want healed up while you're here?"
no subject
"That'd be great. I got hit in the chest a few days ago. I think its just a bit bruised. But I havent had a chance to get it checked out." Things were a little complicated and busy after Kendrix's death.
no subject
"Go ahead and lay down for me."
He picked up the dermal regenerator, ready to use it once the kid laid down.
"Do you get in a habit of getting injured often?" Don't lie to him, he already knows.
no subject
"Sometimes. It's not like I get hit on purpose," the teen replied. Honestly, he tried to dodge. Sometimes. Sometimes it was just easier to get hit.
"Why?" Andros now did look concerned. Was there something the suit didnt protect against? Or was getting injured often bad in this ship. Maybe it meant he wasnt doing his job correctly or something. Maybe they had some kind of cultural taboo against it.
"There's not some kind of cultural taboo against getting hurt is there?"
no subject
"No, there's no damn taboo. Hell you're more likely to get hurt here than a lot of people are in their worlds. But the readings kicked back a lot of injuries in the history section for the past six years." Pause. "I'm not your parent, but damn kid, be a little more careful around here."
He looked towards the readings screen. The stuff that was kicking back was pretty normal, though there was odd influx on the energy reading. He stared, waiting to see if it would change at all while they continued their conversation.
no subject
"I haven't had parents in an awfully long time." The young man paused, thinking back, "I've been on my own for a while, and even before than, well, we all do our duty right?" All those injuries. "Has it really been 6 years? " 6 years as a ranger? Time flies.
"Everything healed right? The injuries?" Unlike the others, Andros was well aware the Power didnt make injuries miraculously go away. Zhane spent 2 years in cryostasis, with no guarantee that it would do any good.
"Why is it so dangerous here?"
no subject
"Sit up for me, we've got to do one last reading." He grabbed a device which placed a pad straight onto the face, allowing him to read more mental and energy based scans. He wasn't interested in the mental - it was the energy he was more concerned with. He needed more details, needed to make sure the kid wasn't a threat.
But he shot Andros a sad look. No parents? That wasn't a way to live. "Yeah, six years. What the h... look, it's not any of my business and you can tell me to piss off if you want, but why are you taking care of yourself?"
He paused, looking down at the scanner. "Yeah, they're healed up." He paused again, glancing at him again. "Space is always dangerous. We don't know where we are, where we're going, or what's out there. And if an anomaly is powerful enough to pull all these people on a secure ship, why wouldn't something be capable of attacking the ship or the people on it? Just... be careful. These machines can do a lot, but they can't bring back the dead."
no subject
"Because my parents are probably dead." It was a sad thing, but, even sadder that Andros was pretty used to it. " There were attacks on my home planet. They were pretty bad. Not a lot of us escaped. So...I'm always careful." Especially after Kendrix and Zhane. "Nothing can bring back the dead. If they could, life wouldn't be worth fighting for."
no subject
Leonard pulled the pad away from the kid's face, not sure what to say at first. He was a doctor, not a damn psychologist. But hell, he'd started this damn mess, so he'd better take the time to clean up a bit. At least make the kid feel better. But he felt like an asshole. Really, he did. So that guilt combined with old experiences and he just kind of let words spill out of his mouth.
"I have a friend back home who lost his whole damn planet. He's part of an endangered species now. Lost his mom, his home, his way of life. He's really not an emotional guy, but he lashed out pretty damn badly. If his dad hadn't stopped him, he'd probably would have put a guy in the hospital." He paused a minute before looking back at Andros. "I'm glad you're careful kid, I am, but you're too damn young to not have parents."
Leonard fell silent, eyes pulling away, before looking back at Andros.
"Look, I'm not trying to replace anyone in your life, but if you ever need anything, anything at all, come find me. I'll help you if I can."
no subject
As for Andros and Bones and their heart to heart? Well Andros definitely had some anger issues, buried deep down. They tended to come out when he was mercilessly beating monsters to a pulp. But, Bones told him what he needed to hear. Ever since the people of Angel Grove had tried to sacrifice themselves and stood up for the Rangers in their time of need, Andros trusted people a little more. It was proof of what he was fighting for. That most people were intrinsically good, and there actions were a conscious choice on their part.....which kind of made all the monsters he had beaten to a bloody pulp seem not so bad. What if, like Waspicable, they had been conned or beaten into their actions? And they just killed them. Well, that made them look kinda bad didn't it?
"Thank you. That's one of the kindest things anyone's ever said to me. It sounds like your friend and I have a lot in common." He shook his head. "There are so many things I wish I could tell my parents. My sister was kidnapped when we were young. I wish they knew I finally found her." Even if finding came with a lifetime of family therapy.
no subject
Leonard gave the tiniest smile, but it dwindled as Andros spoke. Dead parents and a kidnapped sister? What the hell was this kid into? If not before all of the trouble, then now? Someone doesn't have a life like that and end up in a regular career field. The injuries made more sense, the not looking for fights, things were coming together a little. But there was no reason to pry. Again, not a parent. But as long as Andros was going to talk, Leonard would listen in both concern and hoping to pick up why the kid was getting himself into all this trouble.
"Yeah." He paused. "Just try not to do what my friend did. I'd rather you not send someone my way and then I'd have to explain why there's a bloody man on Doctor Crusher's biobed." He flashed his eyes over to the female doctor as he spoke, then he paused again. "I'm glad you found your sister, kid. At least you have someone then." Though by the sound of it, it was a long time, and god only knew the mental state of all involved in that one, including the kid.
no subject
"That's doc. I'll do my best." He had an outlet, really he did. It involved blowing up monsters in the most painful ways possible. "Thanks for listening. I'll try not to take up anymore of your time. Is there anything else you need me to do?"
no subject
"Yeah. Just be sure to find me if you need anything at all, alright?"
And that was that. Open invitation. He just had to wait to see if Andros went through with it. Leonard hoped he would. But back to business.
"There's one thing. I got this weird energy reading off you. Nothing that looks like could kill anyone, but it's not normal for humans to have that sort of thing. You got any superabilities I need to know about or is this kind of reading just normal for you?"
no subject
But before he left, Andros looked over at the doctor as he inquired about the energy readings. Apparently they could measure morphing energy here, even if he didn't understand it. Good to know.
"It's normal for me. You might get similar readings from the other two I came here with. We're from the same universe."
no subject
Oh thank god, an answer. Normal. Just normal. And two others would read the same. Good, that meant he could log that off the list as possible human evolution in their world. Who knew. But at least it was good to know.
"Alright. Thanks. Now get out of here, kid, before I get the idea of sticking you with some vaccines."
He smiles a bit. It's a joke, of course.
no subject
Andros gave the other man a little salute as he turned and walked away--unless Bones has a reason to stop him.
"See ya."
