[Ten Forward]: Rooming Assignments | Round #4

There had been many things Lieutenant Worf envisioned for himself upon his promotion to Chief of Security. Herding humanoid interlopers into organized groups and assigning them permanent residence aboard the Enterprise was, to say the least, not among them. After regrouping from their time at Alemar III, Dr. Crusher's medical team has cleared a number of new visitors for ship-wide access, which means it falls upon Worf's shoulders to assign them quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. He has gathered everyone in Ten Forward to impart this vital information.

As he has done this before, he has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

"Now, the rooms," he rumbles, reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is a post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions, and where we'll post more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP.]

Room # 0733 - James Kirk and Peggy Carter | Open

James Kirk. It wasn't a name that she recognized. But then she hadn't been aboard the ship long enough to really get to know many of the people aboard. The idea of co-ed rooms was a bit odd to her after the military's careful attempts at keeping male and female soldiers separate but she was certain that things would go smoothly.

Waiting outside her room, she looked around at the other newcomers, seeing who might be her new neighbors.

A roommate. Just another reminder that this wasn't his ship, that he wasn't the captain. From that stand point it was frustrating. But, he was a social creature, and he had done the dorm thing before, he could handle it again. But it certainly hadn't been with a woman. Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Not that he had anything against a woman roommate. Hell, he loved women. That. That was kind of the problem.

And as he paused in the hallway to see the pretty girl standing outside his room, he definitely decided this could be a problem. Or a lot of fun.

Well then.

He finished walking the distance to their shared room, and gave her a smile with all of the Kirk charm and held out his hand. "You must be Carter."

With the milling group, it took her a moment to realize the person moving toward the door was her new roommate. Briefly, she missed her uniform and the courtesy that it had usually earned her. But she had been without it for over a year and had adapted.

Whoever Kirk was, he couldn't be worse than the men she'd worked with in Flynn's office.

No sense of that condescending nature or any trace of superiority that she had gritted her teeth and accepted during the past year. That seemed to be something she had left behind when she'd stepped off the office lift.

There was a hint of the sort of charm that Stark had used on her but that was something Peggy was rather used to. Taking his hand, she smiled as she arched an eyebrow in amusement. "And you must be Kirk. A pleasure to meet you."

A uniform wouldn't have changed a thing. He liked women, he flirted with women, but that didn't change the fact that he saw them as equals in the work place. Uhura was just as threatening, if not more so, than most male members of his crew and it had only made her more interesting.

Well, there were always worst first reactions, so he would consider this a good start and he gave her hand a friendly squeeze and shake before releasing it. "Considering we're going to be roommates, I don't mind the whole first name basis if you don't. You can call me Jim. And the pleasure is all mine."

When there was no show of the masculine ego she had dealt with before, Peggy began to relax, her smile becoming more genuine as she shook Kirk's hand.
In the back of her mind, she chided herself for expecting the worst from her new roommate. No one on the Enterprise had reminded her of the men she'd been forced to deal with when she'd been a typist. She had no right to expect Kirk to act as they had.

"I don't mind, Jim." Especially when he had asked instead of taking liberties. That made her wonder. So far in the future, she would have expected 'old fashioned' manners to be forgotten but asking about home might not be an appropriate subject. "Did you arrive recently or..." Peggy wasn't sure what happened to those who were no longer on the ship. "Were you given a new room assignment?"

"Fairly new on this ship." And his smile was a little strained at his answer. But unloading on his new roommate who was asking a simple and normal enough question wasn't something he would subject her to. But how he missed his ship and his crew and his chair. The lack of his cabin he could deal with though.

"And how about you?" There was something classic about her look that he didn't see at the academy or back in the cornfields of Iowa. It was like she stepped out of one of those old paper magazines. And he liked it.

"This ship? Were you stationed on another?" She had assumed that the new arrangements were for those pulled from other eras and worlds, not for members of the crew. She would have assumed that crew members roomed together but perhaps they weren't so that they could help people who had been displaced as she had.

"I arrived recently. From..." Now that was a tricky bit to explain. Sinthia had said most people didn't even know of their time. "1946 to be exact. If this reality had a Second World War. I was told that there were no wars here."

He snorted at that, expression twisting into something serious, "Something like that. I'm James T. Kirk, and I am the captain of the Enterprise. The real Enterprise, not this rebranded knock-off."

With a deep inhale all the anger that slipped out with those words faded and the smile returned. "The 1940's? That's...that's kind of amazing." She was a classic. Like the car he stole from his step-father and drove off the side of a cliff. Not that he planned on riding her off...wow that train of thought was stopping right there. And he cleared his throat in order to clear his head.

"We've had wars." The Eugenics Wars came to mind. Or Nero's one-shipped war against Starfleet, or the possible one against Klingon that had Marcus ignoring all the believes he was meant to uphold. "They're never good things. I'm sorry you're part of one."

She might not be familiar with the history of this reality but she knows that Jim and his ship had to be important. And that ship was well loved considering how he reacted to the Enterprise they had found themselves on. "Perhaps you can tell me about her sometime. Space travel was something only in science fiction novels in my time."

A time that she had expected to be seen as archaic not amazing. She was adapting - fairly well considering the situation - but most of the things around her seemed more like something Howard would have dreamed of instead of something that was part of daily life.

"Most people would think that I'm out of date." Her tone held a hint of teasing, pleased that Jim hadn't thought of her as a relic of the past best forgotten. "I've been told that no one even remembers the era I came from."

Which had led Peggy to hope that perhaps future generations hadn't lived through the sort of horrors that accompanied the war. "No one should have to suffer though that. But that was the past. Perhaps we can make things better in the future."

"I'd love to talk space with you." He answered with an easy smile, "Or history. If you promise not to tell anyone I might just admit that I'm a bit of a fan of the past." Flirting and a bit of truth. He was getting better at this.

"And that's certainly the future we're aiming for." While he was always up for an adventure, it'd be nice if Earth wasn't being threatened for a while. Especially while they were away on their five year mission-if he ever got back to be a part of that.

"Well, how about we continue this in our room, huh?" And with a gesture, he moved to step into their shared room.
