Once they had finally escaped Russia and made it back aboard the TARDIS, the emotion Will was feeling more than anything was one of relief. After all of that, he was here again, and Dr Klein was back and the same as ever, and they were neither dead nor imprisoned in Russia, which considering how that prison break had gone was really nothing short of a miracle. So it was riding on that feeling that, after thoroughly annoying Dr Klein for a bit with his excitement at being back in her presence, he decided to go to his room to get some rest when she announced that she meant to do the same. And so, cheerfully, he bid a good night to the Doctor and followed her out of the console room.

But on his way down a corridor in the TARDIS, having already separated from his superior, he quite suddenly...well, stopped being in the TARDIS. And instead found himself in the middle of what looked like a pub. At this, Will's relief evaporated in an instant and was replaced by startled fear. He turned in a slow circle around him, taking in his surroundings with wide eyes. By then, people were starting to turn to look his way, no doubt unable to fail to notice the sudden appearance of a terrified young man in a neat collared shirt and slacks, looking like he'd walked out of the 1990's, fashion-wise. At the same time, Will was noticing the sleek, futuristic surfaces and the fact that not everyone in the room looked human. Not only that, but there were definitely alien species present that he recognised neither from his work in the field nor his extensive knowledge of UNIT's files. And that was not a good sign at all.

After a moment of stunned silence, Will finally managed to bring his hands up nervously, trying not to look threatening. Then he cleared his throat and, with an effort, stuttered out a few sentences that raised in pitch as he went until the end was more of a squeak than a word, revealing a very nasal RP accent. "H-hello everyone! I. Um. I'm not sure what just happened, but I...come in peace?"

He just hoped that they did, too...

The Enterprise arrived at Starbase 4077 not long ago. Not much has been revealed to Picard on the rank or status of his guests other than that they will be beamed aboard within the hour. He still does not like the circumstances, but he is prepared to meet them with dignity.

Which is why he has chosen to wear his dress uniform.

(And before anyone decides to quip with "emphasis on dress!" he'll have you know the latest incarnation has been shortened by several inches and is now worn with standard-issue uniform pants. Players pls.)

While he waits for Transporter Room 1 to call him once his guests are ready to board, he settles in his ready room. His usual cup of earl grey tea is ordered from a replicator with specific instructions on temperature, and once he has gathered the cup in hand he sits and sips it quietly — and then, quickly and with rather less decorum, he spits the tea back out. "What?"

He glares at his cup as though it has betrayed him, and in a way it has. The tea is undrinkable. He fussily orders another, and it too is the same. Bitter, sour, frankly revolting. "What is the matter with this thing?"

It tastes like ... ah, yes. Leola bark tea. Whatever cruel fate would replace his earl grey with this is — no, not fate. Person.

"Kirk," Picard mutters, setting the new cup down and storming out of his ready room. It was not that long ago, fresh from his second stint in the brig, that Kirk had been caught tampering with the replicators in Ten Forward trying to override their programming to provide real alcoholic beverages. A completely childish stunt, when he could have received alcohol from Guinan. But it was the principle of the thing, wasn't it? Buck the rules, cause trouble, a stir, once more challenge his command — well, he will see a stop to this if it is the last thing he does.

Which is how Picard ends up in Ten Forward in his dress uniform, face tight with frustration, gazing about to locate the renegade captain.

"Whomever is responsible for reprogramming the replicators to produce Leola bark tea, I expect you to come forth immediately," he calls into the crowd. "Or anyone who can give me the location of Captain Kirk."

Now that the medical team under the temporary command of Dr. Bashir has cleared a sizable number of new passengers for ship-wide access, it falls on Worf's shoulders to assign them quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. The new arrivals have been gathered together in Ten Forward, and are awaiting further instructions on how to proceed.

As he has done this before, Worf has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

"Now, the rooms," he rumbles, reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

Marian is holding a padd, and her fingertips are resting around the lip of her cup.

She could be said to be reading a book, and drinking a cup of a tea.

The little black screen is not as good as bound paper and leather, and the tea is from a magic from the wall that is a science that looks like The Lady's work with flashing light. The replicator's Lily Tea tastes nothing like the one she's missed, but she doesn't dislike the Earl Grey the woman behind the bar suggested she try tonight.

It may not be perfect. But neither is being on a starship.

Yet she has a seat. She has Caspian and Kate. She has tea and a book.

No one could ever say Marian hasn't always been very good at compromise.

She likes to spend time in the rooms that are all windows, and to come stare at the stars. She knows she could use the holodeck and immerse herself in stars and space, which is still a little too big, almost too profane. But she likes this. This one she can handle. It's bigger than The Window in Milliways, but it's more real than the room of false illusions.

She likes real.

She has always liked real.

But this year especially. Too much has happened this year. It should make her one of the many who long most feverishly to get home. But Ambergeldar, though it is, and its rulers and one day rulers are, most dear, is not home. Even Milliways and London Underground could not be substituted for a home earlier this year. Being given homes in the fresh cut loss of her own is too left-footed.

Plus, everyone in all of those know too much. Everything. All she's lost and can't regain.

Maybe it's selfish. She tells herself that she's here because of the adventure. Somewhere new. Endless planets to explore. A future she never would have known about. Her century so very long ago gone. But she knows, somewhere, hidden down deep, that she likes that no one looks at her here the way they do everywhere else.

There's peace, and whole lot of stars out here.

There had been many things Lieutenant Worf envisioned for himself upon his promotion to Chief of Security. Herding humanoid interlopers into organized groups and assigning them permanent residence aboard the Enterprise was, to say the least, not among them. After regrouping from their time at Alemar III, Dr. Crusher's medical team has cleared a number of new visitors for ship-wide access, which means it falls upon Worf's shoulders to assign them quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. Something strange begins to happen underground. Those pretty, glistering crystals that twinkle from the walls and ceilings start to move, sinking down into the rock, and disappearing from all sight. In each cave and cavern, every arching ceiling and cramped tunnel, they all vanish.

The main cave where the visitors were brought during the tour feels darker now. It has weathered the trauma of the last three days better than some places, but that's all about to change.

[ooc: And welcome to the kickoff of our final leg of the Alemar III plot! Day 3 has officially begun, which means all team posts moving forward should reflect that. Below, this post is split into two sections: the first is for any teams or individuals who want to establish themselves as being in the main cave for the final action of the plot; the second is for our teams of fighters and all who wish to assist them. Bear in mind that the historians and empaths won't step in to reveal what's going on until the next group post; this is primarily for the last battle and gathering all the fractured teams back together. If you're not sure where your group is, check in with your plotting e-mails or the plotting post; if you don't want to join the main group until the fighting stops, the next post will also have a place for your characters to enter and reconnect with friends. If there are any questions, leave them in the plotting post and a mod will get back to you asap!]

"Well," Lucie coughed, satisfied that the emergency exit was well-and-truly blocked by the fallen boulders, and brushed her hands on her pants, knocking the rock-dust off. "Not getting out that way, either."

She glanced around. At least they had emergency lights, but that big quake had otherwise cut them off completely. The lifts were down, the com panels were down -- and her mobile, which was supposed to be able to call the Doctor, wasn't getting reception either.

There were still rumblings -- another quake could come any time. And she thought she heard muffled voices on the other side of the rocks from time to time, but they couldn't hear her, apparently.

She looked around at the gathered people there. "Alright. So I've got a torch. There are all those other tunnels going off in other directions that aren't blocked. I'm going to see if I can find another way out. Anyone want to join me?"

"Welcome, everyone, to geothermal field two-nine-one," Dr. Johanna Sk'Amor says, once everyone has gathered in the entryway.

The shuttlebay the group has just left is behind them, while the large entrance to the facility is directly ahead. The building is quite spacious, and despite the high volume of visitors no one is cramped for space while standing here. It's like a museum lobby, with fixtures in the center of the room and wings on either side. While the design is not as bright and clean as the Enterprise, the high ceilings and white walls give a feeling of spaciousness. To the right is the main observation room, where the convex wall making up one full corner of the drilling facility is primarily floor-to-ceiling windows. The vistas beyond are stunning: tall, grey mountains and low valleys, all covered with snow. To the left is a winding staircase that leads to an upper level, and beyond that are several labs.

"This is one of five scientific outposts located on Alemar III," the doctor continues. "At one time we had seven, but two have been destroyed by earthquakes. Alemar III is highly geologically active, so our remaining facilities have been reinforced to withstand even the most devastating natural disasters. There's nothing to worry about, our engineers are some of the best in the quadrant, but if you feel some tremors while you look around just keep in mind that this is normal.

"Two of our outposts are at the polar north and south of the planet, while the other three, this one included, are evenly spread across the globe. Our staff is small, only about ten scientists and five archaeologists, and enough engineers to keep everything in working order. In all, the entire planet only has about ninety occupants at any given time. It's rare that we're able to entertain guests.

"If you'll follow me, I'll show you some of the work we accomplish here."

[ooc: This post is open to those who signed up for our game plot only! As it's being run party post style, all characters are encouraged to tag in and mingle; since teams have not been divided yet, any participating character can tag anyone else, you don't have to stick only to those on your teams. You may also tag in as many top level threads as you choose if you're doing the full tour, just be sure your character ends up in the room where their team will be positioned for the rest of the plot (for those who will be divided in the mines due to cave-ins, the main mine connects to many other rooms and alcoves, so simply tag in under the Main Mine subheading and have your characters move around the different passageways to explore. Wherever rocks fall, that's where the rooms will be divided). Threadhopping and backtagging are encouraged! This post will remain open for as long as it takes all characters to tag in.]

Captain's log, supplemental: we are approximately one solar day's journey from Alemar III. At our current speed, we should arrive there before nightfall tomorrow. Commander La Forge reports no continuing problems with our engines, so it would appear that my conversation with Q was not without purpose. Though there have been no further incidents, the crew is preparing for any eventuality. This will be the first time near an alien world for many of our visitors, and no doubt they will be curious.

I have taken it upon myself to pay a visit to Ten Forward. While I trust that my crew have been taking good care of the situation, I find that it often puts minds at ease to see the captain engaged in what is happening. Hopefully, the evening will pass without incident.

Captain Picard enters the room in his standard uniform. He lingers at the door long enough to appraise the situation, and moves on to the bar.

"Just tea, thank you. Earl Grey," he says, wishing to keep his mind clear.

Marian had decided to take Guinan up on her advice from the first day finally. Even if talking to the computer was a strange thing, that still made her wince too much. Having a voice shoutout at her from nowhere was going to take a lot of getting used to. But she managed to ask for where she wanted to go, and get directions.

Which did get her to the doors of the Arboretum.

The fingers of one hand curled tight into the fabric of her skirts.

The holodeck might be an endless wonder, but it came and went, while there was something deep and true about honest green and growing things. The smell of them and the look of them, that rang a bell in her heart nothing else could. It takes only the breath of another second before she's gone, too.

Walking inward, fingers reaching out to brush through the lush greenness.

New guests have arrived on the Enterprise, and that means Lieutenant Worf and his security detail are busy once again bringing them to see Dr. Crusher. Sickbay isn't all that unusual. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for Chief Medical Officer Crusher herself, she's well-groomed and kindly, wearing her teal uniform and a blue coat. All of the medical personnel, in fact, look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

"All right, come in," Dr. Crusher calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: Same rules as before: this is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Caspian is marveling not only at the amount of information in the library (and how very different it is from Milliways, or from the high-ceilinged suite of rooms in Cair Paravel), but at the quality of silence which pervades the room. There's nothing to hear: no sound of rustling leaves or passing steps, none of the little ambient voices found on even the quietest world.

He finds it...unsettling, at times, but he is adjusting.

This library, with all its wealth of information, is at least a very good distraction.

There are two generally human-male-shaped lifeforms aboard the Enterprise who can be found in the uniform of a Starfleet captain: one's usual expression is grumpy, and the other's is quite pleased with himself.

This is that one, come to Ten Forward to survey his handiwork.

Well, it's beautiful, isn't it? All this potential gathered here, on the verge of something big. Savor this moment--it won't make the history books; the best times never do. But he'll remember, and that's all that matters.

He'd been bored and now he's not. That sums it up. He's over by a window, watching the room, if you'd like to come express your gratitude for this little vacation.

This ...

... is not where Marian was supposed to be.

But it says a lot about her last five years, more than the century she comes from, that she scans the room across her vantage point first. Eyebrows faintly furrowing when her lips press. It's not where she's supposed to be, but neither were Milliways, The House of Arch, The London Underground, or Ambergeldar. It's different, entirely different, but the mixed-up crowd is almost familiar enough.

There's sure to be someone in charge somewhere in this group. She just has to figure out which and start from there.

Caspian might agree, except that he's certain he's precisely where he's supposed to be -- only ever a step behind, and no further.

He takes another half-step, enough to come just behind her shoulder, casting a curious look about the strange room, but his hand never strays to the hilt at his hip, and his shoulders never tense.

"Strange," he says, low enough that his voice carries only to her ear. "And here I'd supposed we'd found the last of the doors that might open."
