[Ten Forward]: Rooming Assignments | Round #4

There had been many things Lieutenant Worf envisioned for himself upon his promotion to Chief of Security. Herding humanoid interlopers into organized groups and assigning them permanent residence aboard the Enterprise was, to say the least, not among them. After regrouping from their time at Alemar III, Dr. Crusher's medical team has cleared a number of new visitors for ship-wide access, which means it falls upon Worf's shoulders to assign them quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. He has gathered everyone in Ten Forward to impart this vital information.

As he has done this before, he has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

"Now, the rooms," he rumbles, reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is a post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions, and where we'll post more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP.]

"You're a ... pirate princess."

He shakes his head.

"Wow, it's like I'm in a goddamn fairytale book right now." He stops himself short, managing to look every bit apologetic as he sincerely feels. Which, okay, is a lot less than your normal person, but he has no intentions to be rude. (It just ... sometimes kinda comes out.) "No offence.

"Are the rest of your royal family pirates too?"

Ahim didn't present any offense to his commentary, but she shook her head again. "No, I was a princess before I became a pirate. The rest of the royal family was destroyed along with Famille. I became a pirate so what remained of my people could see me fighting the Zangyack and not give up hope." Her voice was a bit firm, but held no judgement or scolding in it. He had no idea.

Geez.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Kennex says, and he means it.

Suddenly, his perspective is shifted a little. The girl's been through a lot and she still manages to be impossibly polite and friendly.

Shit has happened to him, and now look - he's a total grump.

"So uh ... what exactly do you pirate?"

She smiled again, and stood up to pat him on the shoulder. "You mustn't worry. There's no way you could have known." This conversation could have been a bit different a mere week prior. But she had her closure.

"We came to Earth seeking the Greatest Treasure in the Universe," she stated brightly. "And we've nearly found it, too." Now that they had all of the Greater Powers, anyway. What timing this Q person had...

"And what exactly do you consider the 'Greatest Treasure in the Universe'?"

Because for some, that would be water.

Or maybe gold.

Or, in his world, advanced technology that could be manipulated for nefarious purposes.

She had to think about that a moment. After all, she couldn't really give away everything the Captain was after. "No one knows what form it takes. But we have all the key elements to find it." Surely Navi would be able to give them a hint to find it much like he had the Greater Powers, right?
likeavirtue: (e. going to go ahead and call bullshit.)

"That tells me nothing, kid," Kennex says, raising an eyebrow.

He can tell a vague answer when it foggily tries to confuse him - and here, it's definitely confusing him.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you much more than that. Not that the information is particularly useful where we stand." There was the slightly stern tone back in her voice again.

She held up the PADD so he could see it. "We are over 100 light-years from Earth right now. And I believe the year on Earth was 2012 when I left it. According to this, it is the middle of the 26th century by that same calendar." So there was no chance of rescue from her crew. That was sad to think about. But, they were pirates. They had traveled through time and other dimensions before. Surely, Captain Marvelous would find a way.
likeavirtue: (o. yup nope.)

[personal profile] likeavirtue 2014-10-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Captain. Marvelous.

Oh, man.

It is a good thing Kennex can't read people's minds or hear people's thoughts or he'd be cracking up at the name.

As it is, he rubs his face in frustration.

"Yeah," he says, a groan making its way out. "Someone told me about that. The time-travel thing. I'm a little beyond you - I'm from the year 2048 - but it's still not the 26th century."

Not by a longshot.

She nodded and lowered the device. She sighed a bit. Her strength was starting to slip a bit to show some of her dismay. Even if she knew her crew would do all they could to find her, she wasn't sure how much they actually could do.

So she was a bit more subdued when she turned back to her roommate. "How about yourself, Mr. Kennex?" Even if he'd asked her not to, it still felt strange to address a veritable stranger by anything else.

"Forgive me, would you like some?" She reached for the teapot.

[personal profile] likeavirtue 2014-10-26 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if she's going to insist that she call him 'Mr Kennex', he's not going to stop her.

Even if it does sound a little over-formal. And frankly, reminds him of his old man.

(Though his father, like him, went by Det. Kennex most of the time.)

"Uh - no," he says, shaking his head. "Not much of a tea person, if I'm gonna be honest."

"What sort of place is Earth in 2048?" She was genuinely curious. Earth is a lovely planet, and she loves to hear new things about it. She settled in for his explanation, a small eager smile on her face.

[personal profile] likeavirtue 2014-11-01 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Kennex resigns himself to Ahim's cheeriness, knowing there's probably going to be no way out of this arrangement.

Well.

At least he didn't get stuck with a ... dragon or something.

"It depends. It's a little behind on spaceships like this one, but it's pretty technologically advanced."

And in some ways, this is not a good thing.

"But otherwise ... it's just like anyone else's Earth, I'll bet. People living in cities, going to school, going to work. There are markets and shops and cars.

"The cops do what they can to protect the people." There's a pause. "That's what I do."
princess_flintlock: (09)

[personal profile] princess_flintlock 2014-11-01 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
If the worst possible option would be to be stuck with a cheerful person, you're doing alright, Kennex. "Ah, we've met some police officers before. They were pretty good people once they stopped trying to arrest us." She mentioned that so casually, too.
likeavirtue: (l. in uniform.)

[personal profile] likeavirtue 2014-11-01 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh ... huh.

"Well, that's probably because you probably stopped doing things to make 'em arrest you," he points out. Not that he even knows what kind of police force she's used to, or if they were in their rights to arrest her and her piratey family.

[personal profile] princess_flintlock 2014-11-01 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
She shook her head. "The Zangyack Empire had us accused of things we hadn't done. But they were still Super Sentai, so justice prevailed in the end."
likeavirtue: (f. speak up.)

[personal profile] likeavirtue 2014-11-02 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"All right. Well, I'm glad justice prevailed."

As it should.

Kennex is not going to outright admit that he's not sure what 'Super Sentai' and the 'Zangyack Empire' are, but the confusion is pretty clear on his face.

"So it's pretty clear we're from very different worlds. This is gonna be interesting."
