[Away Mission:] Arrivals Post, Alemar III (Party Post!)

"Welcome, everyone, to geothermal field two-nine-one," Dr. Johanna Sk'Amor says, once everyone has gathered in the entryway.

The shuttlebay the group has just left is behind them, while the large entrance to the facility is directly ahead. The building is quite spacious, and despite the high volume of visitors no one is cramped for space while standing here. It's like a museum lobby, with fixtures in the center of the room and wings on either side. While the design is not as bright and clean as the Enterprise, the high ceilings and white walls give a feeling of spaciousness. To the right is the main observation room, where the convex wall making up one full corner of the drilling facility is primarily floor-to-ceiling windows. The vistas beyond are stunning: tall, grey mountains and low valleys, all covered with snow. To the left is a winding staircase that leads to an upper level, and beyond that are several labs.

"This is one of five scientific outposts located on Alemar III," the doctor continues. "At one time we had seven, but two have been destroyed by earthquakes. Alemar III is highly geologically active, so our remaining facilities have been reinforced to withstand even the most devastating natural disasters. There's nothing to worry about, our engineers are some of the best in the quadrant, but if you feel some tremors while you look around just keep in mind that this is normal.

"Two of our outposts are at the polar north and south of the planet, while the other three, this one included, are evenly spread across the globe. Our staff is small, only about ten scientists and five archaeologists, and enough engineers to keep everything in working order. In all, the entire planet only has about ninety occupants at any given time. It's rare that we're able to entertain guests.

"If you'll follow me, I'll show you some of the work we accomplish here."

[ooc: This post is open to those who signed up for our game plot only! As it's being run party post style, all characters are encouraged to tag in and mingle; since teams have not been divided yet, any participating character can tag anyone else, you don't have to stick only to those on your teams. You may also tag in as many top level threads as you choose if you're doing the full tour, just be sure your character ends up in the room where their team will be positioned for the rest of the plot (for those who will be divided in the mines due to cave-ins, the main mine connects to many other rooms and alcoves, so simply tag in under the Main Mine subheading and have your characters move around the different passageways to explore. Wherever rocks fall, that's where the rooms will be divided). Threadhopping and backtagging are encouraged! This post will remain open for as long as it takes all characters to tag in.]

Dylan is being watched from across the room. The man watching him has his arms crossed and if Dylan could see him, a look of curiosity on his face.

Clay can understand watching people from the edges of the crowd, he has done it most of his life.

What is this man to his roommate? Clearly Seamus respects him, he's a Captain, Harper's Captain ... maybe.
dreams_dont_die: He's almost certainly looking at Harper right now (Don't you dare)

He knows when he's being watched.

It's a survival skill on an Argosy Special Operations team. If you're undercover on a world you have no excuse to be on other then the orders that might well be denied if they were made public, you develop very good senses for anything out of place.

Or you die.

And Commander Dylan Hunt of Division Five was very good at what he did.

The skill lies in watching the room without seeming to, in keeping moving and noting what people do, in paying attention to all your senses, even those that don't seem to be telling you much.

And eventually, he works out who's watching him. When he does, he lifts his head, an exaggerated questioning expression on his face. An invitation, or a challenge, as it were. Here, he has little to fear from a curious man; he has plenty of enemies in his own world, but there aren't any Ogami or Drago-Kazov or any of his other enemies here, so he feels little fear in drawing attention to the fact that he's noticed he's being watched.

He has trained in stalking since he was five but he isn't being subtle about it. Clay is just curious, interested and he isn't very good at conversation. At least not with non-pack members.

When the other man lifts his head Clay nods back and accepts the invitation. He walks over to where the man is. All the while still watching the Captain.

"You got something on your mind?" Dylan asks.

It's not accusatory, but it is direct. He's used to people staring at him. He's getting a name in his world, and when he visits a signatory world, or a potential signatory world, people notice him. People whisper, people look at the man in the uniform that marks him out as being from another time.

Here, though, he's just another passenger, just another of the inter-dimensional visitors. There's no reason for anyone to be watching him.

"Curious." just as direct.

He briefly looks in the direction of Harper before returning his gaze to the Captain.

Curiosity.

That's not unfamiliar to him, either. Like being watched by strangers, it goes with the story, with what he's made of it. With being the last man around who remembers the Commonwealth in its glory, who's seen Tarn-Vedra, who lived in a time when the world had hope and light and wants to bring them to a world that has neither.

That, though, is also irrelevant here. All the guests on the Enterprise are out of their time and place, though Dylan apparently further than many.

There's a possible answer to the man's curiosity, though, in the brief flick of his gaze across the room.

To Harper.

"Ah," Dylan says. "You know Harper. Then maybe you already know that I'm Captain Dylan Hunt of the Andromeda Ascendant. Harper's the engineer on my ship."

Clay nods, "Harper and I are sharing living quarters."

"I'm Clay." he keeps watching Dylan.

Clay likes Harper, he appreciates his thirst for knowledge, for understanding, he seems nice, sort of reminds him of Logan which helps when he is so far from his pack.

"Good to meet you."

For a moment, Dylan wonders if he should apologize to the guy.

(He's seen Harper's bunk on the Maru and the mess he made of the quarters he has on the Andromeda. He wouldn't want to he Harper's roommate.)

"Did Harper send you to talk to me, or did curiosity just get the better of you because you know him?"

He'd like to hope Harper's not resorting to using go-betweens, but he's also not about to deny that things could be a hell of a lot better between him and his crew than they are at the moment.

The last words he'd shared with Harper over the comms link had not been friendly ones.

Clay is hardly neat, really his pack mate make fun of how messy he is, so that shouldn't be a problem for either of them.

"He respects you." Dylan does have the 'aura' of an alpha. Clay could tell by the way that Harper spoke of Dylan that there is something more to it, a complication. Clay thought he could figure it out by watching them but it will take more time.

[personal profile] dreams_dont_die 2014-08-01 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That is certainly not an answer to Dylan's question. Clay doesn't seem too talkative, which is probably for the best since if he were, he'd be in constant competition with Harper, who has a tendency to let his mouth run away with him.

Dylan raises his eyebrows, just for a moment.

"If he didn't, he wouldn't be on my crew."

Yeah. He knows.

Except that apparently, he doesn't respect him enough to tell him about the trouble he'd gotten into here, but that's none of Clay's business.

Clay nods, though as far as he was concerned that did answer the question but since it didn't. "I'm starting to understand why."

There is movement that catches his eye, "The tour is starting." despite his words he doesn't move, he isn't eager to join the group. The crowd.

"We've been through a lot together."

There's a lot of history to the respect Harper and Dylan have for each other, because the respect is mutual, upset with his engineer though Dylan may be. The first time they'd met, Dylan had wiped the floor with Harper and Harper had been trying to help steal his ship. Harper was the one who told him the Commonwealth had fallen.

But they've come a long way since then. Harper long since earned Dylan's regard and respect.

If he hadn't, Dylan would have expected less of him. And been less disappointed.

But Clay's right, the tour is headed off, which is what they're meant to be here for. Dylan smiles and holds out a hand in the direction the group is headed.

"Guess we'd better get going then."
