[Away Mission:] Arrivals Post, Alemar III (Party Post!)

"Welcome, everyone, to geothermal field two-nine-one," Dr. Johanna Sk'Amor says, once everyone has gathered in the entryway.

The shuttlebay the group has just left is behind them, while the large entrance to the facility is directly ahead. The building is quite spacious, and despite the high volume of visitors no one is cramped for space while standing here. It's like a museum lobby, with fixtures in the center of the room and wings on either side. While the design is not as bright and clean as the Enterprise, the high ceilings and white walls give a feeling of spaciousness. To the right is the main observation room, where the convex wall making up one full corner of the drilling facility is primarily floor-to-ceiling windows. The vistas beyond are stunning: tall, grey mountains and low valleys, all covered with snow. To the left is a winding staircase that leads to an upper level, and beyond that are several labs.

"This is one of five scientific outposts located on Alemar III," the doctor continues. "At one time we had seven, but two have been destroyed by earthquakes. Alemar III is highly geologically active, so our remaining facilities have been reinforced to withstand even the most devastating natural disasters. There's nothing to worry about, our engineers are some of the best in the quadrant, but if you feel some tremors while you look around just keep in mind that this is normal.

"Two of our outposts are at the polar north and south of the planet, while the other three, this one included, are evenly spread across the globe. Our staff is small, only about ten scientists and five archaeologists, and enough engineers to keep everything in working order. In all, the entire planet only has about ninety occupants at any given time. It's rare that we're able to entertain guests.

"If you'll follow me, I'll show you some of the work we accomplish here."

[ooc: This post is open to those who signed up for our game plot only! As it's being run party post style, all characters are encouraged to tag in and mingle; since teams have not been divided yet, any participating character can tag anyone else, you don't have to stick only to those on your teams. You may also tag in as many top level threads as you choose if you're doing the full tour, just be sure your character ends up in the room where their team will be positioned for the rest of the plot (for those who will be divided in the mines due to cave-ins, the main mine connects to many other rooms and alcoves, so simply tag in under the Main Mine subheading and have your characters move around the different passageways to explore. Wherever rocks fall, that's where the rooms will be divided). Threadhopping and backtagging are encouraged! This post will remain open for as long as it takes all characters to tag in.]

She found herself wondering when it was that she last set foot on firm ground as opposed to starships, birds of prey, starbases, and other space-based craft. Probably when she had escorted those sleeper ships back to Qo'noS.

"Yes, it is," she offered her a little bit of a smile. "I am used to the shakes of a ship locked in battle, but not so on world."

"I'm mostly used to shakes from traveling the time vortex in a bleeding shed," Lucie shrugged. She stuck out a hand. "Lucie Miller. From Earth."

Her smirk returned to her face. "Traveling through time in a shed? I thought things had gotten much more interesting on the Enterprise since you all arrived. But I never anticipated just how interesting."

"Oh, you have no bleeding idea," Lucie admitted with an eyeroll. "So, pardon my ignorance, because I'm not used to this universe at all yet, but... are you the same race as that security guy? Wassis name? ...Pierre?"

She chuckled a bit at the wrong name. "Half the same. I'm half human and half Klingon. Yes, Lieutenant Commander Worf is also Klingon. I'm K'ehleyr, Ambassador to the Federation from the Klingon Empire."

"Wharf, Pier, I knew it was something like that," she smiled. "Pleasure to meet you, K'ehleyr. I'm from Earth, early 21st century; I travel with the Doctor through time. Sort of an adventurer, I guess you could say. Seen loads of aliens now, everything from Daleks and Cybermen to mobile jellyfish."

Despite herself, when the source of the name confusion sank in, she actually laughed. It didn't help that she imagined what his face might look like if this young woman actually said this within his earshot. "I don't think I've heard someone confuse his name that way, that's very nice." She recovered herself after a moment. "I haven't heard of Daleks or Cybermen. I suppose the cosmos is wider and more far-flung than most of us can imagine." Even without Q's meddling.

Lucie nodded in agreement. "Yeah, the Doctor says we're in a whole different universe. None of these races are ones he's familiar with, and he's known just about every species ever. He'd never heard of you Klingons, for example."

Can I just say I'm in love with this thread right now? because it's the truth

[personal profile] am_sass_ador 2014-08-02 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
She raised an eyebrow at that. For good or ill, it was hard to find a world that had not heard of the Klingons. "Never heard of Klingons?" That truly is something. "In some systems that's as strange as having never heard of humans." It was truly impressive the kind of lengths to which this Q had reached to.

Awww! Thanks! I love your K'ehleyr, and I've been looking forward to her meeting Lucie!

[personal profile] lucie_bleeding_miller 2014-08-02 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. I mean, I was meeting a new alien species almost every time I turned around with the Doctor, but he always knew all about them, even if they were from the other side of the universe in some distant past or future." She smiled. "But if you've never heard of the Daleks... I mean, I hadn't before I started traveling with the Doctor, but they're a massive threat, one of the worst the universe has ever seen."

She took a bite of the food, and spoke a little around her food as she chewed. "Which just proves we're in a whole other universe now, huh?"

This woman was full of surprises. "I might like to speak with this Doctor of yours. Out of professional curiosity, of course." Because if Q could bring people such as these from a universe with creatures like that, what could stop him from bringing those creatures themselves? She might have to have a discussion with the captain about what exactly was going on here.

"Shouldn't be a problem," Lucie nodded. "The Doctor's always up for meeting new folks."

The thought of the Daleks invading this universe hadn't escaped Lucie's mind, either. She's not sure anything could stand up to them. They might look like tin cans covered in eggs, but they some of the deadliest killers she's encountered in her travels with the Doctor.

"I think he's off looking at some tech-ey thing or another. Boys and their toys, eh?"

"I guess some things like that are fairly universal," she had a bit of a chuckle at Lucie's last comment. "Whether they're covered in circuits or blades."
